So it took us a MONTH, but we finally can use a grocery cart!! You ask the cashier for a chip and they GIVE you one and then you can open the magic chain on the carts. When you put the cart back and lock it in… you get your chip back!!
The grocery store is only 6 minutes away in the town of OLIVEIRA do Hospital. It’s a city really.

We spent last night at QUINTA CHAU DA VINHA. Super sweet. Great breakfast. No English. Very friendly. We found a wonderful place in the village for dinner and again almost no English but super super warm and friendly. All locals. Family run and delicious local country food.
